The Hope Journey Community held its first edition of the Missions Weekend from Friday, 25th July to Saturday, 26th July 2026, at Amede, as part of its continuing commitment to supporting the work of the church and promoting practical Christian mission and evangelism. The Missions Weekend formed part of the activities under the Hope Journey Community's year project at Amede. However, this year's programme was intentionally designed to take a somewhat different approach from previous years. The objective was not simply to visit the community, hold a programme and return, but to create an opportunity for participants to engage directly with the community through house-to-house evangelism, while also reviving the Evangelism 101 training programme. The weekend therefore combined training, fellowship, practical evangelism, prayer, community engagement and partnership with the local church.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Hope Journey Community held its first edition of the Missions Weekend from Friday, 25th July to Saturday, 26th July 2026, at Amede, as part of its continuing commitment to supporting the work of the church and promoting practical Christian mission and evangelism.
The Missions Weekend formed part of the activities under the Hope Journey Community's year project at Amede. However, this year's programme was intentionally designed to take a somewhat different approach from previous years.
The objective was not simply to visit the community, hold a programme and return, but to create an opportunity for participants to engage directly with the community through house-to-house evangelism, while also reviving the Evangelism 101 training programme.
The weekend therefore combined training, fellowship, practical evangelism, prayer, community engagement and partnership with the local church.
The programme was undertaken in collaboration with the leadership and young people of the church in Amede, particularly the Reverend Minister, Rev. Josh, his wife and members of the Young People's Guild (YPG).
The Missions Weekend also received support from Beloved Children of the Most High, an organisation that assisted with the programme and contributed to making the weekend possible. Their support formed part of the wider network of individuals, organisations and partners who continue to make the work of Hope Journey Community possible.
The weekend provided an opportunity for members, volunteers and associates of Hope Journey Community to deepen their understanding of the Great Commission and to appreciate the importance of taking the Gospel beyond the walls of the church into homes and communities.
2.0 PURPOSE OF THE MISSIONS WEEKEND
The 2026 Amede Missions Weekend was organised primarily to provide a practical and intentional conclusion to the year's project at Amede.
The specific purposes included:
- To undertake house-to-house evangelism within the Amede/Akurabo community.
- To revive and reintroduce Evangelism 101 as a practical training programme for Christians who desire to participate meaningfully in evangelism.
- To equip participants with practical knowledge and skills for sharing the Gospel.
- To strengthen the relationship between Hope Journey Community and the local church in Amede.
- To encourage Christians to see evangelism as a responsibility of every believer and not only of ordained ministers.
- To provide Christian literature and Scriptures to the local church for continued public reading and ministry.
- To create an opportunity for prayer, fellowship and reflection among volunteers and associates of Hope Journey Community.
- To strengthen collaboration with organisations and individuals who share a commitment to Christian mission and community service.
3.0 ARRIVAL AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
On Friday, 25th July 2026, members and volunteers participating in the Missions Weekend began gathering at their various designated pickup points.
At approximately 1:00 p.m., the team began picking up participants from the different locations.
After completing the pickups, the team proceeded towards Amede and arrived in the community at approximately 2:45 p.m.
Upon arrival, the team had a short welcome meeting with Rev. Joshua Siaw Tetteh and members of the Young People's Guild of the Amede church.
The meeting provided an opportunity for introductions, greetings and a brief discussion about the programme for the weekend.
Following the meeting, the team proceeded into the town to explore the Amede/Akurabo township.
The town tour was an important part of the programme because it enabled participants to become more familiar with the community in which they would be carrying out the evangelism exercise the following day.
Rather than approaching the community as complete strangers, participants were able to observe the environment, understand the general layout of the township and become more conscious of the people and communities they would be engaging during the house-to-house evangelism.
4.0 EVANGELISM 101 SEMINAR
After the town tour, the team returned to the chapel for the Evangelism 101 Seminar.
The seminar was introduced as part of the effort to bring practical evangelism training back into the Missions Weekend.
The purpose was to move beyond discussing evangelism as a Christian duty in theory and to help participants understand how to actually engage people respectfully and effectively when sharing the Gospel.
Participants were taken through practical considerations surrounding evangelism, including the importance of approaching people respectfully, communicating the Gospel clearly, listening to people and understanding that evangelism is ultimately about pointing people to Christ.
The session also prepared participants mentally and spiritually for the practical exercise scheduled for the following morning.
The seminar concluded with a prayer session, during which the team committed the following day's activities to God and prayed for the people and communities that would be encountered.
5.0 PLANNING AND PREPARATION FOR HOUSE-TO-HOUSE EVANGELISM
Following the seminar and prayer session, the team proceeded with detailed preparations for the following day's house-to-house evangelism.
Participants were grouped into teams, with the various groups organised ahead of the outreach.
The planning session was important in ensuring that the evangelism exercise would be properly coordinated rather than carried out without structure.
The groups were briefed on their assignments and preparations were made for movement within the community.
After the day's programme and planning activities had been completed, the team walked to the guest house where accommodation had been arranged.
The team settled in for the night in preparation for the main evangelism exercise the following morning.
6.0 MORNING DEVOTION
On the morning of Saturday, 26th July 2026, the team gathered for a morning devotional before commencing the day's activities.
The devotional session was led by Jonathan, while Boateng shared the Word with the team.
The morning devotion provided an opportunity for the participants to begin the day in prayer and reflection before going into the community.
It also served as a reminder that the day's work was not simply a social or community activity, but part of the Christian responsibility to proclaim and live out the Gospel.
Following the devotional, participants had breakfast before gathering again for the final instructions and briefing.
7.0 FINAL BRIEFING AND DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS
Before leaving for the outreach, the team gathered for a final briefing.
Instructions were given to participants regarding the house-to-house exercise, including the organisation of the various groups and the approach to be taken when engaging members of the community.
The team was also equipped with evangelism materials.
Christian tracts were distributed, and Bibles were made available for sharing with people encountered during the outreach.
The provision of these materials was intended to ensure that the conversations held during the evangelism exercise could be supported with Scripture and Christian literature that participants could take with them.
Following the briefing, the various teams proceeded into the community to begin the house-to-house evangelism.
8.0 HOUSE-TO-HOUSE EVANGELISM
The house-to-house evangelism constituted the central activity of the Missions Weekend.
The various groups moved through the community, visiting homes and engaging residents in conversations about the Christian faith and the Gospel.
The exercise created an opportunity for participants to interact directly with people within their homes and communities.
This approach was particularly significant because it moved evangelism outside the traditional setting of the church.
Instead of waiting for people to come into a church building or attend a special programme, the volunteers went into the community and met people where they lived.
The teams shared Christian literature and Scriptures while engaging people in conversations.
The exercise also provided volunteers with practical experience in evangelism and demonstrated the importance of preparation, teamwork, courage, respect and sensitivity when engaging people about matters of faith.
The house-to-house approach further enabled participants to appreciate some of the realities and circumstances within the community.
9.0 RETURN AND DEBRIEFING
The various teams returned from the house-to-house evangelism exercise at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Upon their return, the team gathered for a debriefing session.
The debriefing provided an opportunity for participants to share their experiences from the field, discuss the people they had interacted with and reflect on the conversations that had taken place.
Participants were able to report on some of the encounters they had during the exercise and discuss lessons that could be carried forward into future evangelism programmes.
The debriefing was an important part of the weekend because it allowed the team to move beyond simply completing the outreach and to reflect on what had been learned from the experience.
10.0 DONATION OF CHRISTIAN LITERATURE AND SCRIPTURES
As part of the conclusion of the Missions Weekend, Hope Journey Community made a donation of Scriptures for public reading and Christian literature to the church in Amede.
The donation was intended to support the church's continuing ministry and encourage the reading and teaching of Scripture within the congregation and the wider community.
This aspect of the programme reflected the broader objective of the Missions Weekend: to ensure that the engagement with Amede was not limited to the physical presence of the Hope Journey team for one weekend, but that something useful would remain with the local church after the team had departed.
The partnership between Hope Journey Community and the church in Amede therefore continues to be an important part of the project's approach.
11.0 SUPPORT FOR THE HOPEBAGS PROJECT
During the conclusion of the Missions Weekend, the Amede church also made a donation towards the HopeBags Project.
The contribution was received with appreciation and represents the reciprocal nature of the relationship between Hope Journey Community and the local church.
While Hope Journey Community continues to support activities within the Amede community, the willingness of the local church to support the wider Hope Journey work demonstrates a growing sense of partnership and shared responsibility.
The HopeBags Project remains one of the practical ways through which Hope Journey Community seeks to support children and communities, and the contribution from the Amede church will support the continuation of this work.
12.0 PARTNERSHIP AND SUPPORT FROM BELOVED CHILDREN OF THE MOST HIGH
The 2026 Amede Missions Weekend was also supported by Beloved Children of the Most High, an organisation that assisted with the programme.
Their involvement added another dimension to the collaborative nature of the Missions Weekend and demonstrated the value of partnerships in carrying out community and Christian mission activities.
Hope Journey Community appreciates the willingness of Beloved Children of the Most High to support the Amede Missions Weekend and recognises their contribution as part of the collective effort that made the programme possible.
The involvement of organisations such as Beloved Children of the Most High also presents an opportunity for Hope Journey Community to continue building relationships with organisations and groups whose work and interests align with Christian service, missions and community development.
13.0 MEETING WITH CHURCH LEADERS
Before departing from Amede, the team held a short meeting with the church leadership.
The meeting provided an opportunity to formally conclude the weekend's activities, express appreciation for the hospitality extended to the team and reflect briefly on the activities undertaken.
The meeting also reinforced the importance of continued collaboration between Hope Journey Community and the church.
The team subsequently departed Amede at approximately 1:32 p.m.
14.0 FINANCIAL REPORT
Financial accountability remains an important part of the work of Hope Journey Community. The following is the financial statement for the 2026 Amede Missions Weekend.

15.0 KEY OUTCOMES
The 2026 Amede Missions Weekend achieved a number of important outcomes.
15.1 Practical Evangelism Experience
Participants were given the opportunity to move from theoretical discussions about evangelism into practical engagement through house-to-house evangelism.
15.2 Revival of Evangelism 101
The reintroduction of Evangelism 101 created a structured platform for equipping Christians with practical knowledge for evangelism.
15.3 Community Engagement
The programme enabled participants to interact directly with residents of Amede and Akurabo and gain a better understanding of the community.
15.4 Strengthened Church Partnership
The weekend strengthened the relationship between Hope Journey Community and the church in Amede, with both organisations contributing to each other's work.
15.5 Collaboration with Other Organisations
The support received from Beloved Children of the Most High demonstrated the value of working with other organisations in pursuing shared Christian and community-oriented objectives.
15.6 Provision of Christian Resources
The donation of Bibles, Scriptures and Christian literature provided resources that the local church can continue to use beyond the Missions Weekend.
15.7 Support for HopeBags
The contribution from the Amede church towards the HopeBags Project provided additional support for Hope Journey Community's ongoing work with children and communities.
15.8 Volunteer Development
The weekend provided volunteers with practical experience in planning, teamwork, communication, evangelism and community engagement.
16.0 LESSONS LEARNT
The Missions Weekend demonstrated the importance of combining preparation, training and practical action in mission activities.
One of the major lessons from the weekend was that evangelism requires preparation. The Evangelism 101 session and the briefing before the house-to-house exercise helped participants approach the outreach with greater clarity and purpose.
The experience also demonstrated the value of working closely with the local church. Local church members understand their community and can provide valuable context and guidance for activities undertaken within the community.
Another important lesson was the value of creating space for debriefing. Returning from the field and discussing the experiences of the various teams allowed participants to learn from one another and identify areas that could be improved in future programmes.
The support received from external partners also reinforced the importance of building relationships with organisations and individuals who can contribute to the mission through financial, logistical, organisational or other forms of support.
The weekend further reaffirmed the importance of maintaining a relationship with communities beyond individual events. Projects are more meaningful when they contribute to a continuing relationship rather than becoming isolated annual activities.
17.0 APPRECIATION

18.0 CONCLUSION
The 2026 Amede Missions Weekend provided Hope Journey Community with an opportunity to conclude the year's Amede project in a manner that combined faith, action, learning and partnership.
The decision to incorporate Evangelism 101 and house-to-house evangelism brought a practical dimension to the programme and created an opportunity for participants to actively engage with the community.
The weekend also demonstrated that mission is not simply about organising events. It is about building relationships, equipping people, serving communities and creating opportunities for the Gospel to be shared in practical ways.
The partnership with the Amede church remains valuable, and the support of Beloved Children of the Most High, together with the contributions of individuals, volunteers, associates and donors, demonstrates the importance of collective participation in Christian mission.
The financial support received also enabled the team to meet the essential logistical requirements of the weekend, while the expenditure remained below the total amount received.
The Hope Journey Community looks forward to continuing to support the church and community in Amede while also learning from the experiences and relationships developed through the project.
As Hope Journey Community continues its work, the Amede Missions Weekend serves as a reminder of the importance of going beyond programmes and creating meaningful, sustainable relationships with the communities we seek to serve.
The 2026 Missions Weekend may have ended with the team's departure from Amede at 1:32 p.m. on Saturday, 26th July, but the work, relationships and seeds planted through the weekend continue beyond those two days.
