The Hope Journey Community

The St. Luke’s Health Project serves as the specialised medical wing of the Hope Journey Community in Ghana. While our sister initiatives, such as DorcasBox (clothing) and Hope Bags (education), address material needs, St. Luke’s is dedicated to providing free healthcare and health education during our missions to underserved rural areas.

Our name is inspired by St. Luke, the “beloved physician” mentioned in the Bible, reflecting our mission to seamlessly blend professional medical care with compassionate Christian outreach.

Our Key Activities

Staffed by a dedicated team of volunteer health professionals; including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and public health specialists, the project delivers the following services directly to those in need:

  • Mobile Clinics: During our village missions, such as “Xmas with a Village,” we set up temporary clinics to diagnose and treat common but often debilitating ailments like malaria, respiratory infections, and skin conditions.
  • Health Screenings: We conduct mass screenings for non-communicable diseases that frequently go undetected, including hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes (via blood sugar monitoring), and vision impairments through comprehensive eye exams.
  • Medical Counselling: Beyond immediate treatment, our team provides one-on-one counselling to educate patients on lifestyle changes and the importance of medication adherence for long-term health.
  • Public Health Education: We host community-wide talks focused on hygiene, nutrition, maternal health, and disease prevention, aiming to foster sustainable health improvements long after our mission concludes.
  • Free Medication: Through dedicated fundraising, we ensure that every patient receives a full course of necessary medications completely free of charge.

The “St. Luke” Philosophy

The St. Luke’s Health Project is built on the belief that “the Gospel is not just for the soul, but for the body too.” We understand that meeting immediate physical pain and health needs is often the first step in building trust. By caring for the body, we create a powerful and compassionate foundation for the spiritual message shared by the wider Hope Journey team, embodying our faith through tangible acts of love.
